About Wristmetric
Independent watch journalism for people who wear their watches.
Wristmetric covers wristwatches for people who buy them to wear. We publish reviews, head-to-head comparisons, buying guides, news and longer pieces on watch culture. (The name puts together the wrist, where a watch is worn, and the metrics we use to judge it.)
What we cover
We write about the whole industry, from $300 automatics to Swiss chronometers and limited editions. Two interests run through the coverage. The first is value, meaning what a watch delivers for what it costs. The second is Japanese watchmaking, which we think offers more in the lower and middle price ranges than its reputation suggests. Neither interest decides a verdict. When a Swiss, German or British watch is the better buy, we say so.
- Reviews look at a single watch in depth.
- Comparisons put two watches side by side and name a winner.
- Buying guides pick the watches we would recommend at a given price or for a given use.
- News covers new releases with the specifications and some context on where they fit.
- Watch culture covers history, movements and the ideas behind the hobby.
How we work
Every specification we publish is checked against the manufacturer’s own information at the time of writing. Where a maker does not publish a figure, we either confirm it with a reputable source or leave it out. Where sources disagree, we say nothing rather than guess.
Comparisons end with a decision. We mark the stronger watch in each row of the specification table, give awards such as Best Value and Best Movement, and explain the reasoning. If the facts produce a tie, we call it a tie.
We do not use star ratings or numerical scores. A watch is rarely a 7 out of 10 for everyone, and a score hides the tradeoffs that matter. We would rather tell you who a watch suits and who should skip it.
We do not claim hands-on testing or timing results we have not done. When an article discusses how a watch wears, it works from the published dimensions.
